The carnival just keeps getting better!

Thousands of extra visitors flocked to the West End of Plymouth City Centre on Saturday for the annual carnival.

With the main stage in Frankfort Gate and entertainment on every corner,  the streets came alive with the sights and sounds of Samba bands, Taiko drummers, street dancers, circus performers, DJ sets and the aromas from the many street food stalls.

The free family day out is organised every year by the Plymouth City Centre Company.

Its chief executive, Steve Hughes, said:“ What a brilliant day for the West End. The carnival just keeps getting better and it was nice to see so many new visitors coming for the carnival fun but also to see what our mostly independent businesses have to offer.

“We hope they can see how vibrant this area is becoming and especially the growing reputation for food and drink with tastes from around the world. We hope those new visitors will now become regulars.”

Sofie Taylor, who owns Kawaffle in Plymouth Market, said:“ Wow what a day! A complete sell -out. In six years, this was our biggest day ever. With a stall outside and the drawing competition going on inside, we were packed all day long.”

The Plymouth City Centre Company represents the interests of all city centre businesses and provides a variety of support services, including a year-round programme of events to create a lively and more welcoming city centre and attract more visitors.
